Okay. I blew up at this when I first heard about it. We had our first character generation meeting for the new LARP in LA a few weeks back. Our first actual game is going to be the 18th. I was curious about XP, so I asked, and like I said, I didn't like the answers.
But now I've calmed down, been reassured by people I trust, discussed it, etc.
I'm curious what you think about awarding XP for things such as hosting the games, helping to set-up or clean-up, or bringing food to the LARP events.
I think it's slightly stupid, but is apparently a tradition for this group(that I'm new to).
What do you think? Especially you Dolston, since you seem to be our guru here. Should I get XP for brining a bag of chips? For staying late and picking up soda cans?
At this point, if anyone is here from Dark Horizons, I'm not being snippy, snide, sneaky or anything. I genuinely curious about the rest of the world.

XP for OOGA Rewards for food?

Honestly? XP are too rare and precious to give out for trivial things.
Providing an *interesting and unique* site or quality food for an event? That's totally worth XP. You ran an in-game feast and provided food and drink to go with it? Awesome. XP. *arranging* the site the game uses anyway, at the game's expense? Cleaning up? Bringing a case of coke? Those are the kind of things all the players can and should do, and not worth XP unless you do them, say, every single game, out of your own pocket, and even then you get 1-2 XP, once.

Hey Knight,
John really hit the nail on the head. XP should be rewarded for making the game a better experience overall. In the past, I have rewarded people with XP for goi above and beyond out of game when the results of their work resulted in a better in game experience for everyone.

Sounds much like the Camarilla's MC system to me...
But things ilke hosting the game? For the majority of my time playing in our larp, if it wasn't at a local university or my parents' house, it wasn't. I never received, asked for, wanted or even thought about XP for hosting. Cleaning up? Gratitude of host + ST.
Other than that little rant, I'm with Tuesday.
