Hey all,
I like hearing stories about people's good gaming experiences. So I want stories. Recent stories. At the next session you attend, I want you to pay attention for what other people do to make the experience better for everyone involved at the game. Take note of it and come back and share it with us. Let us know what made what they did special to you.
Can you do that for me? Please?
Welcome to Shadownessence

HOMEWORK! Something for you at your next session

Last night was the second session of the game I run with Tuesday and Curtis - who is one here but I am not sure of his login - and it went very well. Much good RPing and politicking was had.
But for memorable things that made the game better, I am going to single out Zenten. Zen plays the Prince in my ga,e and he wanted to discuss something under the table with the Citiff Anarch in the city. Being a wise player, he did not want this to happen in public so he sent a messanger to her to tell her that someone needed to speak to her outside in five minutes. KaosKat - being a paranoid, hence smart Anarch - figured this was as a set up so didn't go.
Zenten, really wanting to talk to her send another messenger. Then another. And another one again. Finally he was getting upset about not being able to do what he wanted to so he sent his Sheriff to go drag her kicking and screaming if need be to him in a private locatin where was going to go and wait for her.
It was a wonderful piece of LARing. It involved no violence and good politicking. All the principles stayed true to their characters and Zenten went out of his way to include as many players as possible.
Was certainly one of the highlights of my night.

Okay. Again, the basic set-up. It's Victorian era New Orleans, mixed groupings, Requiem. Invictus dominated, but the Ordo are powerful as is the Lancea Sanctum. I play the Bishop, who is also the Herald and advisor to the Invictus Prince (who recently claimed praxis from the previous prince). Having trouble with the VII, but this isn't about that.
Two cool things happened.
First, a goodly number of players and their characters left the site to go do business (it turned out to be VII related, but it's not important). Well, we could have easily gone out of character with everyone's back turned and all that, but for something like 40+ minutes, I held a philosophical discussion of sin and damnation with the Ordo Dracul Primogen and Ghoul, and two Circle of the Crone acolytes. It was all totally in character and with complete understanding of our own individual philosophies. It was awesome not only how deeply everyone understood their character's faith, but how well they were able to articulate it. It was as real as could be.
Second. I've have a problem for some months now with a member of the Sanctified. He was non-annointed (no Covenant Status) and I honestly think that out of game, he hated how I just came into the game and made the Lancea Sanctum my own. I know out of game he never really understood the philosophy of the Lancea Sanctum, that it's paradoxical nature was deeply frustrating to him. So it was only a matter of time before he left the fold. Well, he decided to threaten both another Sanctified, but also my PC, the new Bishop. He was also spouting blasphemy and apostasty. He's getting in my face literally and I demand he leaves. So he does but says something, I don't recall what. So I yell "Excommunicate!" A tense show-down with ALL of Elysium watching. I again declare him to be excommunicated and with an angry, literally frothing at the mouth Gangrel only inches away, I turn my back on him (my PC is a non-combat oriented Mekhet). There were audible gasps from the crowd. The rest of the Sanctified follow suit, we start to walk away, he starts shouting further blasphemy (including something about Longinus and masturbation) and it turns into a staredown between a female Sanctified (who is less combat oriented than I) and this former crusader combat monster Gangrel. At that point, the Mistress of Elysium called her deputies to physically escort the excommunicated Gangrel out the door. I know a lot of people were "wowed" by the drama of the moment. It was totally player driven, it was totally in character, it was totally spur of the moment (at least on my side).
Now, I do think I'm a pretty good role-player most of the time. But more than anything, these two stories from last night illustrate the collaborative nature of gaming. While I was good, and I mean that as humbly as I can say, without good players to play with and against, it all never could have happened. Both situations arose from the players, not the Storytellers, and they weren't even connected with the current plotlines. They simply arose from simply playing our characters well.
Last night was one of the good nights, when time just flies by and by the time you realize it's late and the STs should be calling game over, it's already past normal ending time and everyone is either still playing or talking about the game.
