White Wolf announces Mage for Live-Action in Summer 2007
Atlanta, GA – September 12, 2006
In response to inquiries and requests made during the summer convention season, fans of White Wolf's Mind's Eye Theatre products will be thrilled to learn that there will be a forthcoming release of Mage: The Awakening for live-action roleplay in the summer of 2007.
Eddy Webb, best known in the industry for his Origins award nominated Cartoon Action Hour, has been hired to bring this project to fruition. With his background as a long-standing member of White Wolf's official fan club, the Camarilla, Eddy will be adapting the tabletop version of this popular World of Darkness line and making it work for the unique challenges that come from live-action roleplay.
"I'm very excited to have been given this opportunity to expand the Mind's Eye Theatre line," says Eddy. "I've been working in the roleplaying game industry for over four years as well as a fan of live-action games for over a decade, and I hope my experience will help make Mind's Eye Theatre: Awakening a game that many players will enjoy, from large LARP chronicles held in convention halls to small games held at a friend's house."
More information will be forthcoming about this project in future issues of White Wolf's e-quarterly magazine and as we draw closer to the summer release date.

Given WW's previous track record, we should see MTA MET around March of 2008. Will be interested to see how true it remains to the source material.

Well, I certainly hope to change that track record.

Well, just like with V:tR MET, a significant portion of the material is already written from the TT, and just needs to be edited for MET mechanics...
Shouldn't take until 2008 to get it out. I really favor the nWoD system for it's compatability with TT over the oWoD mush. Down with chops! Up with cards!

zenten: Since the nWoD system is so similar to the nMET, you can actually use the TT source books almost word for word in a MET game now... which is probably why there hasn't been any MET Vampire publications since the original was released. Personally, I hope they do one handbook for each game (Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Promethean, Changeling) to give ground rules for those character types in the slightly different mechanics of MET, and leave it at that.

I'm aware of that. However, a guide on how to run a good Mage larp game, as opposed to just having the rules (which we already do have for the most part) would be good, and Sanctum and Sigil has a lot of the politics layed out for the Mages, and thus would make a good starting point.

So long as there's options for playing with smaller (<50, maybe even a dozen) troupes, awesome.
Eddy, do you know if there is going to be any alteration of the setting material to accomodate the live action venue? This was a complaint against MET VtR.

My personal group at home is about 8-10. So yeah, smaller groups will be considered.

I don't believe there's as much "LARP unfriendly" setting material in Awakening as there was in Requiem, honestly, so there's not as much need for major changes. That said, there are a few tweaks I would like to make, but I envision most of those as different ways to pitch the same material, as well as to reflect some subtle changes that occured as the game line progressed. Where I can, if there are more serious flavor or setting changes needed to accomodate a certain game style, I'll try to present those as options (for example, some ideas for interconnected Consilii in large-scale games like the Camarilla and OWBN). Right now the Consilium officers look a little different to make sense with the Status rules, but again I've built in options where I could (because not every Consilium falls into the Hierarch/Ruling Council/Provost/Herald/Sentinel breakdown), and the entire Status system is optional for groups that simply don't want to play politics.
As always, these are all speculative comments -- I'm still ass-deep in the first draft, so anything is up in the air.
